Shang is known for his high-intensity and aggressive playstyle. The left-handed 20-year-old uses angles and pace variation, combined with his speed, to construct points to his will. Despite being young, Shang shows impressive mental toughness and fighting spirit, no afraid to lean into his strengths in clutch moments.

Shang reached a career-high ranking of world No 47 in October 2024, after making the third round at two of the four Grand Slams that season.

He lifted his maiden ATP title at the 2024 Chengdu Open, defeating Kei Nishikori, Roman Safiullin, Alexander Bublik, Yannick Hanfmann, and Lorenzo Musetti en route.
