Style and Personality
Felix Auger-Aliassime is one of the most well-liked players on tour, by players and peers, because of the way he conducts himself, both on the court and off. Engaged, earnest and dedicated to his craft, the Canadian has a humble air about him. But when he steps on court he unleashes another dimension of his personality. He is driven to succeed and his game is an extension of his hunger for success. The Canadian plays decisive tennis, backed by a powerful serve and forehand, that allow him to be a first-strike tactician and a dangerous foe on any surface.
UTS History
UTS History – Nearly a champion, always a force
Auger-Aliassime, aka “The Gentle Warrior”, played the final at UTS2, and barely missed out on his chance to raise the thunderbolt trophy when he was edged by Alexander Zverev in sudden death in the title match.
Auger-Aliassime took out UTS stalwart Richard Gasquet in the semi-finals to set up a final with Zverev (aka “The Lion”) that was dubbed as a battle to determine who was the “King of the Jungle.”
“I wish I could have won,” Auger-Aliassime said after his loss in the final, after squandering a 2-1 lead. “The sudden death, it’s tough. It’s a bit of a coin toss. A mishit return from me on the second point which wasn’t good. I tried to play my game, and come in, but bad mistake again.”
The Canadian said he enjoyed the UTS format, and added that he’ll likely be back.
“You get quick matches that are intense, against good players, so I think it’s a good format to have, outside of the normal tour, and probably you’ll see me playing it in the future,” he said.
We hope to see you soon, Felix!
