Style and personality

Best Grand Slam performance: French Open 3rd round (2023, 2024), US Open 3rd round (2023)

Nicknamed The Night watchman because his ‘full name is too hard for people to say’, Zhang loves playing on hard courts and grew up idolizing Roger Federer. He loves playing computer and mobile games and enjoys both Chinese and Western pop music. On the court, Zhizhen has powerful groundstrokes off both flanks, including a two-handed backhand.

Career

With a career-high ranking of No 31, Zhizhen is the highest-ranked Chinese male tennis player in history. He won the mixed doubles silver medal partnering Wang Xinyu at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Zhizhen has won three singles and two doubles titles on the Challenger Tour, and two singles and two doubles titles on the ITF Futures Tour. He also became the first Chinese man to reach an ATP Tour Masters 1000 quarterfinal (Madrid 2023).
