Style and personality
Meet the new American kid on the block. If the name seems familiar, then perhaps that’s because Shelton is the son of former world No 55 Bryan Shelton. But the youngster has already outstripped his father and with a big lefty serve, steely attitude and the match toughness honed on the US college circuit, he looks to have the game to go much higher. Should enjoy his first UTS outing.
Career:
It’s incredible to think that until 2023, Shelton had never even been abroad. An outstanding college player in the US (65-10 over two years), he was ranked outside the top 500 as recently as last summer. But after winning three straight Challenger Tour titles at the end of 2022, he broke into the world’s top 100, securing himself a flight to Melbourne for the Australian Open. Once there, he took his chance with a brilliant run to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open and with a big game, he is already inside the top 40 and destined to go much higher.
