Style and personality
The Brit is known for his relentless baseline game, exceptional movement and tireless work rate, making him one of the most difficult players to put away on any surface, particularly on clay and hard courts. Norrie’s greatest asset is his left-handed forehand, which generates awkward angles his opponents struggle to handle. His never-say-die attitude and quiet determination have earned him a reputation as one of the grittiest competitors on tour. Born in South Africa, raised in New Zealand, educated in Texas and now based in London, Norrie is as much a citizen of the world as he is a British tennis player.
Career
Cameron Norrie’s grinding baseline style and remarkable physical fitness have earned him 5 ATP singles titles in his career so far. His crowning moment came at the 2023 Rio Open, where he defeated world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz in the final – the biggest win of his career. Norrie first announced himself on the biggest stage by winning the 2021 Indian Wells Masters, becoming the first British champion in the tournament’s 46-year history. He cemented his place in the world’s top 10 in 2022, reaching a career-high of No. 8 and advancing to the Wimbledon semi-final, where he pushed eventual champion Novak Djokovic all the way in front of a home crowd.
