What is the UTS concept?

The innovative, groundbreaking format will be played out over three days.

Gone are the familiar two groups, the 8 players sit in one unique Round Robin table.
Each player faces 2 different opponents during the Round Robin phase.
The best four players qualify for the Final Four (semi finals & final).

When and where is UTS Rio?

The first UTS event in Brazil will be played across 3 days, from Thursday 16th July to Saturday 18th July. 

Competition days and times:

  • Thursday 16th of July 6pm – 10pm (4 games – 8 players on court) 
  • Friday 17th of July 6pm – 10pm (4 games – 8 players on court)
  • Saturday 18th of July 12pm – 5pm (5 games – semi finals & final + classification matches – 8 players on court)

The event takes place at Ginásio do Maracanãzinho.

What is the order of play?

Thursday 16th : Round Robin Group (all 8 players on court)

How many matches will each player contest?

The format ensures that each player will feature in a minimum of three matches at the event and in a maximum of four matches.

How are the final group standings determined?

The final standings of the Round Robin table are determined by:

  • a) Highest number of wins
  • b) Highest number of matches played
  • c) Head-to-head results if only two players are tied

If three or more players are tied, then:

  • a) Best quarter average (won quarters – lost quarters)
  • b) Best point average (won points – lost points)
  • c) Lucky draw

What is the prize money?

Total prize money of USD 1,238 million will be on offer, with a maximum USD 400k to the winner.
