Style and Personality

Corentin Moutet plays with style, grit and attitude – and a massive chip on his shoulder. The flamboyant Frenchman is not the most powerful player on tour, but he’s unpredictable, unnerving and blessed with a nuanced, tactically sound game that can be grating for his competition. He’s clever. He’s cunning, and he loves to get into the kitchen of his opponent, where he can set up shop and turn a friendly tennis match into a heated battle.

Moutet is creative on the court, always willing to go against the grain and do something that will befuddle his opponent or – even better – bring the crowd to its feet.

It is now different for Moutet off the court. He is a rapper, a wordsmith and a poet – nearly as good behind the mic as he is behind the baseline, and with the records to prove it.

UTS History

UTS History – A true tornado

“The Tornado” is one of five UTS champions, and the only player to win a UTS title on red clay. He won UTS 4 in dramatic fashion, taking out Taylor Fritz in the final after knocking of Fabio Fognini and Daniil Medvedev earlier in the tournament. Moutet claimed the title with tons of flair, courageous, free-flowing tennis, and consistent, grinding play.

He enjoyed UTS and saw it as a vehicle to express himself as a player and as a person.

He made big headlines at UTS1 when he got into a shouting match with Stefanos Tsitsipas and his father Apostolos, but for the most part he kept it positive and had a fun time with the relaxed rules of the competition.

“I love this feeling, to be free on the court, to express myself,” Moutet said. “You can see that everybody who was watching the match liked it, not because of me but because of all the players, because we are human, we are authentic.”
