Style and personality

Tallon Griekspoor is the embodiment of the grafter made good, a player whose career is a testament to persistence rather than precocious hype. Nicknamed “Grieki,” the Dutchman comes from a sport-steeped family (a motocross-racing father, a tennis-instructor mother and twin older brothers who both played professionally), and he openly models himself on his idol Andy Murray, citing the Briton’s relentless work ethic and never-say-die attitude as the qualities he most admires. That fighting temperament defines his tennis: he is an aggressive, front-foot baseliner who counts the forehand as his favourite shot and uses it, alongside a hefty serve, to take time away from opponents and dictate from the back of the court. A clay-court enthusiast by his own admission but effective across surfaces, Griekspoor is at his most dangerous when his ball-striking is flowing freely, explosive competitor who can trouble far higher-ranked players on his day.

Career

Griekspoor is 29 and has long been the leading man of Dutch tennis, a late developer who turned himself into a tour regular through sheer industry. After a remarkable 2021 on the Challenger Tour, where he stockpiled titles including a run of five in a row, he produced his breakthrough at tour level in 2023: a maiden ATP title in Pune in January sparked a season that also brought a third round at the Australian Open, a semi-final in Rotterdam, a home title in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and a final in Washington, lifting him to a career-high of world No 21 in November 2023. He has now won three ATP singles titles in all and reached the fourth round of Roland Garros in 2025 for his best Grand Slam result to date. Griekspoor has repeatedly shown the firepower to test the very best when his aggressive game clicks.
