Style and personality:

Cobolli grew up watching fellow Italian Fabio Fognini and sought to incorporate some of the same ‘flare’ into his own game. His playstyle consists of a powerful baseline game, seeking to dominate with flat shots and keep his opponent behind the baseline. Cobolli also has worked on his movement to the extent that it is one of his best attributes, being one of the quickest young players on the tour.

Career

The Italian’s favorite surface is clay, which allows for more time to wind up for his shots. However, his best tour result arrived in Washington, D.C. earlier this year, when he reached the final – beating fellow “On” client Ben Shelton in the process. Cobolli has defeated Shelton twice this season and also boasts a win over Tommy Paul (Cincinnati). The final appearance in Washington increased his ranking to a record high of No 31 in the world. His breakthrough 2024 campaign featured third-round performances at the Australian Open and US Open.
