“G-Unit” Dimitrov soars into Miami final
Grigor “G-Unit” Dimitrov is on fire at the Miami Open! The Bulgarian, who was one of the stars of the show when he reached the UTS final in Frankfurt last September, followed up his stunning win over Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals in Miami by taking out Alexander Zverev in the semis to reach his third Masters 1000 final.
The win over Zverev on Friday – a 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-4 – set up a final against Italy’s Jannik Sinner, who’s now 24-1 on the year, a run that included his first slam title at the Australian Open.
Dimitrov will return to the world’s top 10 for the first time since 2018 thanks to his efforts in Miami and the 32-year-old praised his coaching set-up for their support.
“All this comes with all the work that we have put in as a team,” he said. “I’m on a different path in my life, in my career. There’s a lot that was done, a lot of work. I kept on believing, kept on striving, kept on having faith in myself. When I didn’t really believe in myself enough, all the team was constantly pushing me in the right direction.
“This is just the cherry on the cake.”
