Style and Personality:
Known for his big serve and big forehand, Kokkinakis likes to use his weapons to play aggressive tennis and take control of the points. The Aussie possesses a solid two-handed backhand and is quite adept at the net too.
Career:
Kokkinakis showed promise as a junior itself, as he finished runner-up in the boys’ singles events at the Australian Open and US Open in 2013. From thereon, he concentrated on the pros and by May 2015, he had broken into the world’s top 100. The Australian’s underwent right shoulder surgery in December 2015 and was limited to just one singles match from November 2015 to May 2017.
He returned to the tour and scored one of his biggest career wins in March 2018 when he upset Roger Federer in the second round of the Miami Open. He picked up his first career ATP singles title in Adelaide in January 2022. That same month, he also partnered fellow Aussie and close friend Nick Kyrgios to become the first all-Australian men’s doubles champions at the Australian Open since Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde triumphed in 1997.
