German prodigy Justin Engel ninth player to join stellar UTS Frankfurt line-up
UTS has a teenage prodigy joining its stellar line-up in the upcoming Frankfurt edition of the 2024 UTS Tour.
Precocious German talent Justin Engel – ‘Starboy’ as is his UTS moniker – will be making his UTS debut in his native homeland at UTS Frankfurt this weekend (taking place between October 18 – 20 at the ‘Süwag Energie Arena.’)
Following a thoroughly impressive breakthrough season during which he became the first player born in 2007 or later to win an ATP Tour match, at 17 years old Engel also becomes the youngest player to make his UTS debut.
He is the youngest winner of an ATP Tour match since Carlos Alcaraz in Rio de Janeiro in 2020, and with an ATP ranking of 458, Engel is the youngest player in the ATP Top 500. He plays right-handed and possesses an impressive double-handed backhand that has helped lead him to four ITF titles this year.
Engel played basketball and was a talented kickboxer before giving it up to focus on his tennis career – a move which appears to be paying dividends.
Citing both Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal as his idols, Engel will bring an entirely different and youthful dimension to the UTS Tour as youth meets experience in Frankfurt.
So it will be all to play for at UTS Frankfurt, with La Monf returning to defend his crown from New York, which he won in stunning style over Bublik Enemy to clinch his maiden UTS title.
Tickets for UTS Frankfurt are currently sale and can be purchased here.
