Tsitsipas and Nakashima join the UTS Gothenburg field
Two more world-class players join the field for UTS Gothenburg by BNP Paribas on 12-13 December: Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas, a former World No. 3, and American Brandon Nakashima, the current World No. 16 and champion of UTS Rio in July.
They join Holger Rune, Alexander Bublik and Luciano Darderi, taking the field to five of the eight players who will compete at the 10,000-seat Scandinavium arena for a prize pot of US$1 million – with the event doubling as the UTS Tour Super Stage that decides the UTS Year-End World No. 1.
Tsitsipas: “Coming back to Sweden is really exciting”
Tsitsipas, a two-time Grand Slam finalist and triple Monte-Carlo Masters 1000 champion, is one of the very last high-profile players to shine with a one-handed backhand – and he is back on the rise. The Greek reached the fourth round of the US Open for the first time in his career earlier this month, knocking out seeds Arthur Fils and Jiri Lehecka.
He is no stranger to the format, having reached the semi-finals at UTS New York in 2024, and he returns to familiar ground in Sweden, where he won his first ATP title, in Stockholm in 2018.
“Winning my first title indoors in Stockholm was an unforgettable moment at the start of my career, so coming back to Sweden to chase another trophy in Gothenburg is really exciting,” he said. “The UTS format is extremely demanding and the field is incredibly strong, but I’m ready for the challenge and looking forward to another great UTS experience.”
Nakashima: from UTS Rio champion to career-high World No. 16
Nakashima arrives in Sweden as one of the form players of the season. The Californian won UTS Rio on his very first appearance in the format, then carried that momentum into an outstanding North American summer on the ATP Tour: semi-finalist in Washington, runner-up in Montreal for his first Masters 1000 final, and semi-finalist in Cincinnati, beating Taylor Fritz and Daniil Medvedev along the way, climbing to a career-high World No. 16. Gothenburg will be his first shot at the UTS season crown.
With five of eight places filled, the Gothenburg line-up already boasts two players of Top 5 calibre in Tsitsipas and Rune, a 2026 Top 10 player in Bublik, and two rising Top 20 stars in Nakashima and Darderi. The last three names will be announced in the coming weeks.
Two days, nine matches, a season decided
UTS Gothenburg by BNP Paribas closes out the 2026 season as the tour’s Super Stage, following UTS Nîmes, France, won by Félix Auger-Aliassime in April, and UTS Rio, Brazil, won by Nakashima in July.
The competition runs across two days. Day one stages the quarter-finals, with four matches deciding who advances; day two builds to the climax with classification matches, the semi-finals and the final – five matches in total to crown the champion and settle the year-end standings, with up to US$511k for the ultimate winner.
