Shapo wins Dallas Open, the biggest title of his career

Denis ‘Shapo’ Shapovalov defeated world No 5 Casper ‘The Ice Man’ Ruud 7-6(5), 6-3 to win the Dallas Open, an ATP 500.
The title is the biggest of the Canadian’s career, having previously won 250 events in Stockholm – in 2019 – and Belgrade – in 2024.
En route to the title, he also defeated fellow UTS players Taylor ‘The Hotshot’ Fritz and Tomas ‘The Air Machete’ Machac.
After the win, the Canadian stated:
“There’s a lot to be happy about, it’s the biggest title of my career,”
“I had a big chance against (Daniil) Medvedev a couple of years ago…I’m really happy to get the win this time. I just got to keep working hard, it’s paying off, and winning two titles not too far from each other, I didn’t have to wait five years to get another one. The confidence is great, and we just have to keep at it.”
The victory marks an impressive return to form for Shapovalov, and comes just in time as he will participate in UTS Guadalajara next week, February 14 – 16 at the Centro Panamericano de tenis.
