Thanasi Kokkinakis to be replaced by David ‘The Wall’ Goffin at UTS Guadalajara
Thanasi Kokkinakis has had to withdraw from the upcoming UTS event in Guadalajara, taking place at the Centro Panamericano de tenis between February 14 and 16.
David Goffin – nicknamed ‘The Wall’ as per his UTS moniker – is due to replace “Kokki” in Guadalajara.
The Australian was due to take part in the year’s opening leg of the UTS Tour, but has had to pull out due to injury.
Kokkinakis’ replacement Goffin will be playing his second UTS event after taking part in the very first edition back in 2020, showing an aptitude for the unique and innovative format of the event by reaching the semi-finals.
The Belgian, former world No 7, reached the final of the ATP Finals in 2017 after defeating Nadal in Federer. Last year, he reached the quarter-finals in Shanghai Masters 1000 after defeating Alexander Zverev, the current world No 2.
UTS Guadalajara will be the Latin American debut of UTS, and features world No 5 Casper ‘The Iceman’ Ruud – among others.
Tickets for the UTS Guadalajara are available here.
