Shelton and Shapovalov battle to the brink at Wimbledon

Ben Shelton and Denis Shapovalov will be major attractions at UTS this year, with Shapovalov making his debut at UTS New York in August at Forest Hills, just days before the main draw at the US Open starts, and Shelton returning to the competition in Frankfurt, in October.

On Saturday at Wimbledon the pair battled for a spot in Wimbledon’s second week, with Shelton emerging victorious 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in three hours and four minutes to become the first left-handed American man to make the fourth round at SW19 since John McEnroe in 1992.

Former Wimbledon semi-finalist Shapovalov is working his way up the rankings in 2024 after missing the second half of 2023 due to knee issues.

Shapovalov, a former world No 10 – will make his UTS debut in front of the fans at the legendary Forest Hills Stadium, the former venue for the US Open.

Shelton, aka “The Mountain“, a veteran of UTS, made his debut in the competition last year and reached the final four in Los Angeles.

Currently ranked No 14 in the world, Shelton was was defeated in Wimbledon by Jannik Sinner in the fourth round.
