Humbert to play UTS Frankfurt after impressive New York debut
Ugo Humbert – the man they call “The Commander” – is back for more UTS glory, with the Frenchman being added to the UTS Frankfurt lineup after his successful debut in the format at last month’s New York event.
Humbert was called in as a replacement for Nick Kyrgios in New York, after the Australian withdrew on the morning of the second day in order to safeguard the recovery of his wrist.
The 26-year-old hit the ground running, defeating two-time UTS champion Andrey “Rublo” Rublev three quarters to one (17-16, 17-13, 13-18, 16-13).
Now, he will have the opportunity to keep his unbeaten run in UTS alive, with The Commander joining Group A at UTS Frankfurt from October 18th to 20th.
Humbert will be competing alongside Alex de Minaur, Dominic Thiem and Kyrgios in the group, with just two of the four advancing to the semi-finals.
He replaces Frances Tiafoe, who was originally scheduled to play UTS Frankfurt but has withdrawn to focus on his prospects of qualifying for the ATP Finals instead.
Other players competing at UTS Frankfurt include Jan-Lennard Struff, Lorenzo Musetti, Ben Shelton and Gael Monfils, who will fight it out in Group B at the Suwag Energie Arena.
