Jack “The Power” Draper has made a strong start to the grass court swing of the 2024 ATP Tour season, winning his opening two matches in Stuttgart at the BOSS Open.

It’s been an up-and-down year for the 2023 UTS Grand Final winner. Since finishing last season strong, the Brit has suffered several tight losses over the first half of 2024, with five of his last eight defeats on Tour going to deciding sets.

However, it seems as though the grass really is greener on the other side, as The Power is finding some handy form on the lawns of Europe so far this week.

The Power sets blockbuster with Big Foe in Stuttgart

So far in Stuttgart, the faster surface seems to have elevated Draper’s game.

Up against Sebastian Ofner in the opening round, The Power was able to win two tight tie-break sets to claim the match 7-6(4), 7-6(5).

In the round of 16, he faced Andy Murray’s conqueror, Marcos Giron. This time, Draper went to a deciding set and prevailed, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to book his spot in the quarter-finals.

Now, the Brit has set up a mouth-watering all-UTS clash in Germany.

He’ll take on No 4 seed Frances Tiafoe for a spot in the semi-finals. Tiafoe–known as “Big Foe” on the UTS Tour–competed at UTS Los Angeles in 2023.

Big Foe and The Power have never met in UTS, but both play an electric brand of tennis. Their groundstrokes and athleticism are well paired with the slick bounce of grass courts, making this an exciting matchup.

Win, and Draper will position himself well for the rest of the grass season, much of which will see him play in front of a home crowd in the United Kingdom.
